A house remodeling project is focused on bedroom or living room. Yet, we seem to forget that kitchen is also a friendly space, because we spend a lot of time in there, so it’s only natural to ask for a comfortable kitchen. Consequently, you kitchen deserves a functional and interesting design. But, what are the steps for kitchen remodeling?
If you always postponed your kitchen decoration project, due to many reasons (difficulty or impossibility to take a decision), we propose ideas for making your life easier.
Choose the flooring: if you have to choose between ceramic tiles, parquet flooring or natural stone, the latter is your best option, mainly because it will highlight the area. Later, natural stone has a slip-resistant surface for preventing accidents (especially with children). In case you are not ready yet for a complete makeover of your kitchen, keep in mind that walls can be cladded with natural stone (SKIN flexible slate veneer or the stone veneer panels are easy to install for a total overhaul of your kitchen look and obtaining a special element).
Decide carefully on what to keep and what to give up, because your kitchen is not exactly the best place for storing rubbish. Besides the fact that this is a place for eating, you also need to cook, so you’ll need even more space.
What major changes are you planning to do? First, it is very important to set priorities for those changes. For example, always break the wall before installing the flooring. Also, changing sink’s layout and any radical change should happen at the beginning of the project. So, best set your priorities, because you don’t want work more than it is actually needed.
If you decide not to use the services of an architect, make a plan and search for information on the internet. In case you need help, our consultants are ready to help you; simply send your pictures and information using “Your Project” submenu, available on “My Account” section of our website.
If you have children, decorate a special corner for them in the kitchen. Children eat better when sitting next to a wall decorated with their favorite cartoon character. Moreover, discuss with them from the start, to make sure whole family is involved in this project.
For saving space, choose floor-to-ceiling cabinets. Of course, upper shelves are for rarely used utensils. Pots and frying pans larger than shelves could be hanged by the wall, or stored in larder in their separated space. Kitchen utensils could be kept out of sight, so search special shelves or hanging devices.
Although it may seem a good idea, avoid using a large table in the middle of the kitchen, because it consumes space, making the space actually smaller. Better set a medium table in one corner, depending on your family. In this way, you will have a cozy space, perfect for enjoying dinner with your family.
If you have a smaller kitchen, do consider using light and colors for conveying that feeling of larger space. Choose lighter colors (maximum 3) or a lighter shade of wood for parquet flooring, cabinets, drawers and kitchen furniture. Using mirrors associated with furniture has a similar effect, as for lighting it is better to have a powerful, central light source, combined with smaller lights, in the rest of areas.
In case you are not ready for major changes, keep in mind that changing wallpaper, painting walls with another color or dyeing kitchen objects in another color, are all methods for obtaining a visible makeover of your kitchen. Also, the bright colors are highly recommended.
Do not forget about kitchen functionality. Whether you want radical remodeling or subtlety, always keep in mind that, first and foremost, the kitchen should have functionality.
