Slate is a sedimentary, metamorphic natural stone, with 6-7 hardness out of 10 on the Mohs scale and low porosity. It withstands perfect in water and acids environments and in addition to this has fireproof features. Also, is not influenced by environmental factors (temperature, wind, rain, UV radiations etc.), mechanic shocks and freeze-thaw cycles. Slate can be used for interior or exterior decoration projects and is available as tiles, panels, mosaic, cobblestone, countertops and SKIN flexible slate.
Nero Riven Slate displays a murky cloud color associated with rain falling on roofs cladded with murky shaded slate. The 30 x 15 cm size is optimum for subway pattern installation, which promotes water leakage.
Slate tiles for roof are delivered already punched and for installation copper nails or adhesive are recommended. Slate is a low porosity natural stone, therefore you can use it for roofing without problems. Furthermore, waterproofing is recommended (Grimex cleaner and LTP Mattstone H2O sealer) for preserving the original appearance of your stone, although these treatments are no absolute guarantees.
