Pedestrian walkways – beauty and utility
Besides its obvious purpose (tracing the area from a main road to the entrance), a walkway might also give the feeling of large space, when all you have is a small backyard. Here are some recommendations for laying walkways.
What stone do you choose for a walkway?
There are many natural stones you can choose for laying a walkway and we recommend maintaining a consistent look with the exterior of the house. When a house is symmetric, the walkways should reflect it by straight lines and simple materials, as for example cobblestone / standard size slip-resistant tile, such as flamed granite.
A holiday house’s walkway should be simple, from natural materials such as natural stone, tiles or decorative stones. Walkway’s winding shapes and a luxuriant garden with captivating flowers and trees are able to create a beautiful experience from a simple stroll.

The main walkway leading to the entrance should be wide and built from light materials. A trick would be to make a longer walkway, where it gets close to the entrance stairs, so that it has a width similar to the first step, for a consistent sensation.
The most popular materials are: brick, natural stone (travertine, slate), natural stone slabs, splitface cladding (mosaic or pebble) and cobblestone.
Travertine is also a fine choice, recommended for walkways thanks to its slip-resistance, but also because of its neutral, sallow, natural colors. Travertine will not alter its color in time, nor is it damaged by repeated freeze-thaw cycles (when used with optimum thickness for exterior spaces, i.e. 3 cm thick and if properly cared for).

How to lay a walkway?
It's a fairly simple process, however it is essential to be done properly: the first step is marking the walkway path with string and then clear the existing lawn or grass. Next, lay the gravel and sand layers and install the cobblestone. The final detail is filling the spaces between tiles with sand.
