Choosing the installation team
Interior
For processing and installing natural stone, different crews are organized based on the specifics of the work.
For countertop installation, the crew includes personnel qualified in stone processing, who carry out measuring, handling, cutting, notching, installation, sealing, edge processing, bonding, milling, polishing, crystallization, stain removal, sealing, and transport. Installing window sills requires the same type of personnel. Installing steps involves templating, handling, the actual installation, flatness checks, and on-site processing.
Indoor installation of stone tiles is done using the “combing” technique. The crew handles cutting and installation in various tile layouts (standard, subway, quarter-turn, herringbone, etc.).
Personnel are familiar with the installation technique:
preparing the base layer – this isn’t specific to natural stone installers and is only done in certain situations (e.g. pouring a self-leveling screed before installing the stone, or applying waterproofing in a bathroom)
choosing tiles – this involves opening the stone packs and choosing tiles based on color variation and, potentially, thickness
a dry layout – this involves laying tiles on the floor to work out the installation order
choosing the layout type – agreed with the customer and based on the type and size of the tiles, a layout is chosen (subway, standard, etc.)
where to start for a classic layout versus a “French Pattern” layout – in almost every case, installation starts from a corner, but if the “French Pattern” layout was purchased, it starts from the center.
how to work around pipes – working around pipes is necessary, and this can be done in several ways, from the old wire method to modern tools that adapt to every irregularity. Wall outlets are worked around the same way, with tiles cut to match the shape of the obstruction.
