Wood mixed with natural stone for a unique flooring
We are visiting Mogoşoaia and the house of Gelu Mălureanu, representative for Avantgarde Concept, a company focused on constructions and decoration projects. After spending three years in Italy, the country of natural stone and fascinated by this element of nature, he finds inspiration for his house decoration project: "The house is Mediterranean-style," says Gelu. “It has been imagined for over a year and after reaching the project phase it has been executed by an architect." This style has been lately more popular in Romania, and for Gelu there was an opportunity to recreate the Italian atmosphere.
"The inspiration comes from the Padova Mestre area - the ground floor is built over an extensive basement below the sidewalks and the terrace, as it is traditional in the area", adds the owner. However, the structure and architecture are adapted for the local conditions, where the temperatures have a strong contrast in the last years - it is well insulated, with double walls and polystyrene between them. The roof is poured and tile covered. The exterior finish includes travertine cladding - the facade of building, the sidewalk and the terrace. Doors and windows are fitted with decorative framings made of natural stone, and the terrace columns are also from natural stone.
How were the materials selected? "At the end of the project the materials had not yet been planned. So I made a tour of Bucharest warehouses, looking for natural stone suppliers. I decided with my wife. Me, suggesting and she deciding" adds Gelu.
Being familiar with the domain, he came to PIATRAONLINE showroom while visiting various construction sites. He find Italian inspiration for creating an original flooring model in the living room - a combination of marble and parquet: "Wood is handled differently compared to natural stone, which requires more care and attention. The process of installation and later aftercare requires more caution, but the result is worthy".

Another interesting choice was terrazzo - also purchased from PIATRAONLINE, as well as marble. Terrazzo is an extremely beautiful tile with colorful decorative patterns cast in a special mold and then hydraulically pressed. Each tile is made of three layers - white cement, fine marble dust and inorganic pigments.
The whole house pays a tribute to natural stone, each of the rooms benefitting from the marvelous charm of the marble, onyx, or the playful air of terrazzo.
Mix of wood and natural stone - micro trend in flooring
In recent years, the combination of terrazzo or natural stone tiles with wood in the floor design has been tested by interior designers. The options are varied, especially due to the wide offer of tiles - you can choose a hexagonal plate made of travertine silver, for example, or a terrazzo type that will give you fresh notes in combination with parquet or solid wood. The effect is impressive but prepare to make a little effort for maintaining this flooring - the two materials will need specific aftercare and will react differently to cleaning or aftercare.
