The Calacatta Viola AIR Lightweight Technology marble slab is one of the rarest and most fascinating marbles in the world, now available in a revolutionary format of just 7 mm thickness. Calacatta Viola is the only variety of the Calacatta family with coloured veining. It impresses with its pure and luminous crystal-white base, characteristic of the Calacatta family, traversed by dramatic and sinuous veins in shades of deep violet, cherry-burgundy, lavender and wine-red, which transform visually according to the light source — appearing as intense violet under cold natural light and as warm wine-burgundy under warm LED or tungsten lighting. This unique chromatic-shifting property gives Calacatta Viola a mystery and visual depth that no other marble can equal.
The coloured veins of Calacatta Viola are the result of an exceptionally rare geological process: manganese-rich fluids infiltrated the marble along fault lines during metamorphism, creating the unique violet veining — a geological structure found in the world only at the intersection of the Apuane metamorphic unit with the Massa unit, located precisely at the Vagli quarry. AIR Lightweight technology now makes this legendary marble accessible in an ultra-lightweight 7 mm format, with a weight 3 times lower than a classic slab, without any visual or structural compromise.
Technical specifications:
- Material: Natural Calacatta Viola marble + ultra-lightweight structural support (AIR technology)
- Base colour: Pure, luminous crystal-white — characteristic of the Calacatta family
- Veins: Deep violet, cherry-burgundy, lavender, wine-red, charcoal and brown accents
- Unique property: Veins change their visible hue according to the light source
- Technology: AIR Lightweight — natural marble thinned and structurally consolidated
- Total thickness: 7 mm
- Weight: ~16–20 kg/m² (compared to ~54 kg/m² for a classic 2 cm slab)
- Format: Slab — large format panel (variable dimensions)
- Structural support: Aluminium honeycomb panel / fibreglass / epoxy foam (depending on technical variant)
- Compressive strength: Similar to solid marble
- Recommended use: Interior — wall applications, furniture, decorative elements, lightweight cladding
What is AIR Lightweight technology?
AIR Lightweight technology enables the use of authentic natural marble in contexts and applications where a classic 2 cm slab would be impossible to install due to weight or structural constraints. The process involves thinning the natural marble to a thickness of 3–7 mm and structurally consolidating it with an ultra-lightweight and ultra-resistant support — most commonly an aluminium honeycomb panel, fibreglass or epoxy resin and glass microsphere foam. The result is a panel with the same authentic visual surface of natural marble, with the same compressive strength, but with a weight 3 times lower.
Applications:
The exceptional rarity of Calacatta Viola and the reduced weight of AIR technology make this a top choice for luxury projects where visual impact and the authenticity of the stone are the priority:
- Representative interior wall cladding — an exceptional focal element in any space
- Decorative accent panels and feature walls — the visual impact is immediate and memorable
- Furniture cladding, doors, headboards and luxury interior elements
- Reception areas, boutique hotels, lounges, spas and ultra-premium commercial spaces
- Nautical (yacht) and aeronautical applications — where weight is a critical factor
- Renovations and refurbishments — direct installation over existing cladding
- Focal element of unparalleled rarity and beauty
Advantages of AIR technology over the classic slab:
- ~3 times lower weight — significantly easier transport, handling and installation
- Total thickness of 7 mm — installation possible in spaces where available depth is limited
- Same authentic visual surface of natural Calacatta Viola marble
- Thickness 7
- Material Marble
- Colour Purple, White
