Ventilated system

Installation (ventilated façades)

How are tiles installed on ventilated façades

Special metal systems are used to fix tiles in place; adhesives aren’t used. The frame the tiles are fixed to is calculated to support their weight while also ensuring they’re anchored and fixed to the supporting wall.

There are several ways to fix and anchor natural stone tiles to the metal frame:

  • anchoring by drilling into the tile edge

Tiles, generally 3-5 cm thick, are drilled into the edge, and a self-tapping screw, stud, or even a pin is fitted inside and secured into the tile. The tile is then placed onto the wall support so the two metal elements interlock.

  • anchoring by cutting a slot into the edge

Another method involves cutting a slot into the tile edge with a diamond blade, cutting deep into the tile. A support disc is mounted on the wall, and the tile is then placed so the disc slots into the groove. This double-frame construction technique, advantageous in several respects and mainly used for exterior cladding, mainly uses granite, slate, and marble tiles.
