Substrate preparation
Reinforcement
Reinforcement strengthens the base layer before installing natural stone tiles. This is usually done at heights above 3 m, during renovation work, when installing a thermal insulation system, or wherever the installation substrate needs stiffening (for example, reinforcing walls). Reinforcing structural elements is based on load calculations for vertical and horizontal forces and is specified in the project design. Outside of these cases, reinforcement is placed where external loads create tension.
Reinforcement can be:
flexible – round-section bars
rigid – rolled or welded profiles
dispersed – various types of short fibers or textiles
fiber-reinforced polymer composite reinforcement
The right reinforcement type is chosen based on installation needs.
For reinforcement before installing natural stone tiles, welded mesh or fiberglass mesh is used.
