Marble: generating inspiration for the fashion industry
There were so many instances when we demonstrated without a doubt that nature and its creations are generating inspiration for the world of Arts. So, we are not surprised by natural stone used as muse for fashion collections, furniture pieces or avant-garde home decorations. We already mentioned in here the flexible natural stone and its use for “Balance” fashion collection, signed by Sisa Holla, about the way natural materials are highlighted by the most unexpected industries. Nevertheless, nature gives us so many things – textures, colors, materials, we can use for shaping collections.
Even if not essentially used in a collection, natural stone is revealed with other shapes and parts that complete the concept. Alexander Wang is one of world’s best fashion designers, known for its apirit and the way he creates the stories for shaping a relationship with his customers. In 2013 opened the largest and most important concept stores, in New York and Tokyo, under his own label. Tokyo concept store has an area of 520 sqm and includes 3 floors and this vast spaces allowed the use of natural stone for decoration. White Carrara Marble, Nero Marquina Marble and bronze accents were used for the decoration project of this Tokyo store.
And because a touch of color of natural stone was not enough, in 2014, Alexander Wang worked with Haydenshapes for fearturing a 5 marble print surfboards, inspired by these two marbles used for the Tokyo store. The concept was developed by Alexander Wang starting from the idea of designing a surfboard as a visual art piece, expressing a higher level of innovation, performance and originality. Haydenshapes – which is a premium workshop where you can find the most beautiful surfboards, more pricesely its founder Hayden Cox was the one who personally created every surfboard.
"You can not ride a wave without a surfboard, just like a house can not be build without stone."
The pictures with the marble texture were digitally printed on the silk, then inserted by lamination onto these 5 boards. The surfboards are the iconic Haydenshapes Hypto Krypto. If you consider it, a surfboard could be an art form – you have to carve the shape, then seal it with resin. This time, working with the designer Alexander Wang resulted in pure objects to use for extreme sports. The result is absolutely amazing, typical for Alexander Wang style. Beyond the beauty of these tiles, there is also a soft humour. Did you ever see yourself riding the waves on a heavy marble tile? The installation does not solely includes these tiles – but part of a concept "The Cage 22" which is actually a metal cage in which a black wave was placed in an area that displays some of designer's creations, with surfboards on the side. Nature elements expressed by Alexander Wang style.
Natural Stone has successfully merged into this project two different industries and activities, with the same source of inspiration – nature – managing to create not only a shop decoration, but a statement. Even though its hardness does not always allow to shape it as we would like to, natural stone highlights perfectly any project – it is an element of nature and you can find everywhere inspiration in nature.
