Natural stone is looking at us – Discover unique images!

Published: General // Published 20.12.2019

By the eyes of Earth and Grace of God, stones look at us, with a soft and lazy look, subtle and caring. The best part is that stone allows us to be as week as we are, with our petty joys of life. Stones could humiliate us with their perennial majesty, or they could give faith by their humility, if our entities mattered. Yet, they only look at us and from the depths of their origin, their petrified eyes seem to kiss our foreheads, bearing the wisdom of past millenians. These eyes without a boundary, opened by us on stone foreheads, to ease our perception of their patronizing vocation, reveals us the meanings of the world we live in. And their gaze follows us from everywhere, of all time and in the most beautiful shades. From the great sand of Egypt, the great Pharaoh Ramses ll and his wife Nefertari are watching us and their gaze, solemn and vain, passes over 5000 years of history.

From the coast of the Nemrut Mountains – Turkey, as it has been guarding his tomb for over 2000 years and more than 2000 m beyond the sea level, King Antiochus, accompanied by local deities, escaped from stone, watches us cautionary and authoritative and their faded eyes are looking for our crowns like Masters.

In the middle of China, the 8th century, at the confluence of some wild rivers that they wished to be more serene, some skillfull monks have carved the greatest Buddha statue ever (71 m). This statue watches over us with fatigue and caring serenity, balancing and calming the surrounding forces.

Hidden within the Cambodian jungle at Bayon, you will find the Khmer Empire Temple, built for Jayavarman the Vllth in the 12th century and stuffed with more than 200 heads with cheerful eyes and smiling lips, watching you with a brightness that seems awkward for a stone, which is supposed to be cold.

Small and trapped in ancient roots, on the site of a 14th century Buddhist monastery in Wat Mahathat, Thailand, Buddha’s head smiles mysteriously, looking to us with contentment.

Around the 13-15th century, Easter Island’s relics are reveales; more than 900 units, up to 10 m height, 90 tonnes weight. In parade formation, they seem to gaze the horizon with solemnity and arrogance, displaying a sublime piety.

From the depths of Czech forests beneath the tool of sculptor Vaclav Levy, the 19th century introduces devils heads, high contrasting expressions and timeless eyes, coming from nowhere and looking consciously to nowhere.

Very expressive, the 4 American presidents from Mount Rushmore have been watching us for over 100 years, each in their own way, concerned and visionary, quiet and frowned.

And there is not only natural stone looking at us through the massive eyes of carved blocks but also by those of fragile sculptures, seeing tangible and meaningful messages that convey personality and style.

Patxi Perier seems like a pagan deity looking wracked and totally different from Brancusi’s Sleeping Muse, by which stone looks at us, even from beyond the eyelids. A common intensity, separated by 100 years. In terms of current achievements, Ed Jaffe (Boy now King) and Mihai Velescu (Nostalgia) are relaxing the stone looks, balancing and smoothing them into harmonies.

For thousands of years, stone has been watching us with its deep and fearsome eyes, spreading magic and diffuse reflexes. And always simple, dramatic or smiling notes. For thousands of years stone has seen our evolution, clearing abstract from us. There, at its essence, we should understand eternity.
