Storage

How to store stone on site

Natural stone tiles should be stored on site in dry places, at ground level. If such a surface isn’t available, a wood-plank platform, a brick floor, or a thin concrete layer should be built. It’s recommended that the area be covered.

The purpose of storing stone this way is to prevent contamination of stone surfaces by dust, water, bird droppings, dead insects, plant debris, or other materials. Avoid leaving stone exposed to rain and wind.

Tile stacks should be spaced apart, avoiding contact between them. Tiles should be stored as they were packaged. Slabs are stored on their edge. Panels and mosaics are stored the same way.

Flexible slate sheets should be covered.

Absorbent tiles (flamed, bush-hammered, split-face finishes, etc.) should be fully covered to prevent water absorption.

Slate tiles should be protected from scratches; travertine, limestone, and marble tiles from mechanical impact.

Recommendation: avoid securing stacks with metal straps. These can leave marks on tile surfaces.
